New School Buildings
The new buildings for Retford Oaks High, St. Giles special and Elizabethan schools are progressing well and are set to open next spring. As well as providing first rate buildings for students there are some excellent sports facilities including floodlit all weather pitches which will be available for community use.
I recently visited the new Retford Oaks High building with other governors, staff and Connexions staff. There is much more space for students both in classrooms and around the school. Dedicated rooms for the arts include a space for drama and separate music practice rooms have been built. There are some excellent outdoor areas for social use and something which many students and parents will appreciate, far better toilets than in current buildings. Attention has also been given to transport issues with room for buses and a parent drop off area within the new site as well as creating a pedestrian access from West Carr Road under the Babworth Road bridge.
Retford Bus Station
Phase 2 of the Retford bus station improvement scheme began at the end of last year when the old bus station closed ready for the start of the rebuilding phase. Funded as part of Nottinghamshire's Building Better Communities initiative, the new bus station is set to open in the summer. This is really good news for bus users. With a far better bus station in Retford, with improved facilities, hopefully more of us will use buses. Find out more about the changes to Retford bus station including new bus departure points.
Footpaths
An adopted footpath and an unadopted path have been causing concern for Ordsall residents. The Council is looking to adopt a policy on Gating Orders which may help local resident’s quality of life. If you want to know more please contact me.

He served on Education, Leisure, Environment and Social Services Committees and as vice chair of both Police and Education committees. He became chair of Education and Cabinet member for Education until 2005.
